The rich history of Japanese beer brand Sapporo is on full display in this live-action and animation hybrid spot we created for the Toronto office of multi-national agency DentsuBos. Sumi-E inspired ink illustrations come to life as well known elements of Japan's culture transition seamlessly through each scene. My team and I traveled to South Africa, to shoot all of the interior and exterior shots at a beautiful location in Cape Town. Each illustration was hand painted, digitized then 3D projected on to animated CG models, before final compositing.
